This Designer In Karachi Is Turning Boys Into Men, One Suit At A Time

By Arslan Athar | 8 Oct, 2018

Fashion is one of Pakistan’s most active industries. Every so often there are new people entering the market, therefore there are new designs, trends, and techniques on the horizon. There’s one brand that is climbing the ranks; Sastre Culture, with its founder Shahmeer Ansari steering the way.

Shahmeer Ansari founded his menswear brand called ‘Sastre Culture’.

He recently showed at the FPW Winter Festive ’18, and it was an impressive collection. The aim of the collection is to follow a man through all his phases of life.

Each look that they showed was built keeping in mind an event in a man’s life

From his graduation to his first job, all the way up to his shaadi.

Shameer started his brand in 2016 but got a big break with the Fashion Pakistan Council’s Millenial Designer lineup.

Speaking to MangoBaaz, Shahmeer talked out his experience of showing at the FP Millenial Showcase; ‘The experience of the showcase really gave us a boost and gave us exposure which was really necessary for the brand to grow and be an established brand in the bespoke menswear industry. It really helped us to get the word out about the existence of our brand ‘Sastre Culture’.”

“We at Sastre believe that fashion is very personal. You simply cannot generalize fashion on every individual, it has to be personalized.”

Shahmeer also spoke to us about how ‘Sastre’ looks at fashion and the value of a good suit.

“We aim to bring ‘fashion’ to a common man by playing around with cuts, designs and silhouette keeping it elegant and not bling bling.”

“Even if it’s a wedding suit, the guy should be able to wear it again at some other function, not just have it hung in the closet. Every piece must be for the ‘event’ yet not restricted to that event only.”

Shahmeer also said that he aims to “bring simplicity back to fashion.”

They aim to make a man look “chivalrous” and “classy.”

As the brand picked up, it slowly became a favorite for Pakistani male celebrities…

Like Mikaal Zulfiqar;

Even the ‘King of Lollywood’, Humayun Saeed wears Sastre.

And the brand seems to be a favorite for Ahmed Ali Butt.

We asked Shahmeer to impart some advice on aspiring designers. He says that it’s best to start simple, learn from those experiences and grow. “Follow your passion,” Shahmeer says, “there’s no easy recipe for success.”
