We all know Pakistanis are known for their hospitality. Everything from their warmth to the way they treat strangers, Pakistan is known for its people. And thanks to this travel vlogger, the rest of the world can see it too.
Jamshaid Khan and his friend Arshid Feroz Khan decided to hitchhike across Pakistan, from Peshawar to Karachi and vlogged the whole thing.
Pretty insane, right?
In efforts to promote Pakistani tourism and nationalism, Jamshaid decided to hitch rides on the motorway all the way from Peshawar to Karachi. With barely any money and no backup plan, the two boys did everything they could to keep making their way down south.
And spoiler alert, it actually worked.
Jamshaid and Arshad were able to make their way to Karachi by putting their faith in random drivers on the motorway who were friendly were take them all the way. Besides a little run-in with the Motorway Police.
We reached out to Jamshaid to see what he had to say about his whole experience and why the two wanted to do it in the first place.
“We wanted to do something that would benefit our beloved country Pakistan as a gift of 14th August so we thought of promoting the idea of hitchhiking & tourism on an international level. If foreigners are promoting tourism in Pakistan than why not us Pakistani step forward & do something for our country.”
“We’ve been travelling a lot all over Pakistan but never hitchhiked that far before.”
And of course, we had to ask what his parents thought on the matter.
“I ( Jamshaid khan ) am the eldest son and recently my father passed away which makes the household responsibilities come all at me directly so I had to stay at home for a month or so because I couldn’t travel and I was constantly being criticised and labeled as “ Careless “ because I followed my true passion of making travel videos but somehow I ended up convincing my mother because she puts so much of her faith in my ideas and my only goals is to shine and make her proud of me. While My friend’s ( Arshid Feroz Khan) parents knew very well about how different we think than everybody else and we told them about the risks that are involved in this but they had to agree to our chaotic idea. Although they thought it’s impossible.”
Honestly, so would we.
Finally, Jamshaid let us in on the biggest lesson they learned from their trip.
“When you’re on a journey like that you constantly meet different types of people from every city from all around Pakistan and each person will leave you with their own valuable life lesson.”
He went on to say,
“The greatest lessons that I learnt was that sometimes all you have to do is follow your heart and just be grateful to whatever you have in this life because we stayed on roads and spent nights with no roof on our head, we took showers in Malls and had to struggle to charge our phones at different shops, we realised that sometimes we take everything for granted and kind of condition ourselves into thinking that we don’t have enough which is hideous for a wealthy life. Also, you get to learn so much about yourself and your needs, you basically face tough times which makes you stronger than ever. And you’ll find places that you thought never existed.”
Pretty inspiring stuff.
Now, we’re not saying to go hitchhiking or anything, but it just goes to show that by putting yourself outside of your comfort zone, you can learn a lot about life.
