There’s A Telefilm About The Tragedy Of Zainab And Everyone Thinks It’s Highly Unnecessary

By Sarah Babar | 7 May, 2018

We’re not going to talk about the Zainab incident, per se, here. But we do need to highlight one major major issue taking place in our entertainment industry, right now. While the Zainab incident is horrific just to think about, a certain production house in Pakistan decided to go ahead and make a telefilm about it.

This disturbs us for a few reasons:

a) You can’t make a whole telefilm about a girl you know nothing about. What “Baaghi”, the drama series about Qandeel Baloch, gave us was something completely different. Qandeel was a public figure who had given us all insight into her life. We knew, if not most, then some aspects of her life. She chose to let us in. How on earth can you make a biopic about a child you know nothing about?

b) How are you going to direct that child into getting abducted by men? It makes use quite furious to even imagine that, let alone talk about it

While there are pictures of the young girl portraying Zainab, with celebrities coming out, we’re trying to figure out if NOBODY’s seeing what’s wrong with all of this

How does a child get over something like this? You’re obviously going to give her some context of what happened to the real Zainab, no? How does this girl then have it in her to face the world?

People all across are also fuming with anger over this piece of news and it seems that nobody’s really happy with this

There were those who were saying they’re going to take legal action against the show

And those who were asking the producers to take the parents’ feelings into consideration

Some just couldn’t understand what was going on

And of course, what all the young girl, Hamna, would go through while playing such a traumatic role

Some called for other ways to promote the awareness of sexual harassment

There were those who thought that this is just a way for people to make money

Asking PEMRA on how they can even let a telefilm like this air and were calling for them to ban the show from coming altogether

And of course, there were those who just couldn’t bear to think of watching the tragic series of events that transpired and led to Zainab’s demise
