17 Reasons Why Supernatural Should Be On Your Must-Watch List, If It Isn't Already

By Sajeer Shaikh | 30 Mar, 2017

Despite the debate over how Supernatural should have ended after Season 5, it has recently been renewed for its 13th season. It follows our lead hunters, Sam and Dean Winchester, as they battle it out with demons, vampires, djinns, werewolves and, sometimes, archangels such as Lucifer himself.

Here are some really great reasons why you should be watching Supernatural:

1. Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles)

I mean, come on.

2. Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki)

A.k.a Moose.

3. Castiel (Misha Collins)

He plays an angel, jbtw. Pretty apt.

4. Basically the entire cast

Not only are they immensely talented and close-knit, they’re also pretty easy on the eyes.

5. The characters

You have pretty much every character in this show. You have angels, demons, the King of Hell, Lucifer, Gabriel, zombified Gandhi. Even Death. Here’s Lucifer being his adorable self:

6. The Impala

Possibly one of the most important elements in the show. As all Supernatural fans know: the Impala isn’t just a car – it’s a symbol.

7. The humor

For a show with characters that have countless psychological issues and have died and been resurrected more times than anyone can keep a count of, Supernatural is pretty hilarious.

8. The sass

Sass runs through the show. Every character is unabashedly sassy.

9. The characters who die and die again

Dean, one of the leads, has died over a hundred times on the show. A large chunk of those deaths were just him dying repeatedly in different ways – in one episode. Just let that sink in.

10. The intense scenes

Some of the scenes are downright gripping and give you all the feels.

11. The bromance

Supernatural has some of the best bromances ever – whether it’s Sam and Dean, Dean and Cas or even the boys’ confusing but adorable relationship with Crowley, the King of Hell.

12. The plot twists

You feel like you’ve got stuff figured out, and you probably have an inkling anyway. But the way the plot twists are introduced keeps you hooked on to the show.

13. The daddy and mommy issues

The show starts with the boys setting out to look for their dad who hasn’t returned home from a hunt. The way they have been raised by an emotionally unavailable father plays a huge role in the men they become. And, well, their mom burned on the ceiling. I imagine that accounts for a certain level of psychological damage as well.

14. The fourth wall that all TV shows and movies have? Yeah, they don’t have that

These guys had an episode (The French Mistake) where they played Sam and Dean playing Jared and Jensen. Like, that’s a thing. Their 200th episode revolved around including fan fiction about the boys and their associates. There is basically no fourth wall.

15. The gag reels are a MUST WATCH

If you love the show, you’re bound to love the super hilarious gag reels where the entire cast is goofing around, being adorable AF.

16. The fandom

The Supernatural fandom may not necessarily be the largest, but it is definitely one of the most devoted and accepting fan bases out there. Plus, the fan fiction you get out of the fandom is insane.

17. The family business

While saving people and hunting things is basically the family business, the Supernatural family itself is a lot more than just that. You have Jared constantly fighting for survivors of depression. You have Misha with his organisation, Random Acts of Kindness, that aims to do exactly as the name suggests. The entire fandom can never get over how Jared met his wife on the set of Supernatural and they now have three beautiful children. And, of course, the entire fandom is united by Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas which has become the unofficial Supernatural anthem.

Supernatural is basically worth every minute of your time. If you haven’t hopped aboard the Supernatural train yet, and are into serious binge watching, you have about 12 seasons lined up for you already with a possible 13th season on the way. If you’re thinking about joining in, now would be a great time to begin.
