If you are a strong, independent woman in Pakistan who does absolutely everything on her own but doesn’t know how to drive, owing to some inherent fear of roads or just the fact that you aren’t trained in how to drive a darn car, or other similar reasons, you’ll be delighted to know you’re not the only one.
Here’s what us women go through:
1. A huge chunk of your income goes to paying cab fares
Whether it’s pocket money or your salary, a big chunk goes to paying for your rides.
2. You’ve gotten inspired by ads and actually thought of buying a scooter or a tri-cycle to drive around in
3. But you soon realize that you live in Pakistan and this isn’t as feasible as it sounds in your mind
4. You question your independent-ness but you just cannot bring yourself to drive on an actual road
5. You find it difficult to share your trouble with friends because you can’t let them know your weakness. EVER.
6. On occasions you do end up sharing your fears of unruly roads and traffic, your friends and family shut you up by calling them self-made fears
7. You hate your guts for wanting a man who could drive you around but you have to do it begrudgingly
8. You get to hear comments about how you need men to drive you around despite all your “independence”
WHY DO CAREEM AND UBER HAVE NO FEMALE DRIVERS? UGH!
9. You have been accused of perpetuating the stereotypes of bad women drivers by your fellow female friends more often than you can recall
10. You have, on many occasions, actually tried enrolling in drivings schools to teach you driving but you just can’t help your fears
11. Even your phupho taunts you asking, ‘beta, tmharay independent honay ka kia faida jab tum mujhe market tak nai le kar ja sakti?‘
12. You drive yourself insane thinking about emergency scenarios where you’re the only person present but you cannot help because you don’t know how to drive
13. At the end of the day, you do realize that your entire life is going to be a struggle when it comes to driving cars and scares you more than people can realize
Haye re zindagi… sigh.
