Here Are All The Struggles Of Dealing With The Fact That You Are Broke

By Rameeza Ahmad | 1 Sep, 2018

A long hard month of work has ended. It is the dawn of a new month. That also means that it is the dawn of a new pay cycle.

WE MADE IT.

But if you don’t get paid till the 1st of the month or even a little beyond that date, or if you don’t get paid AT ALL, then you totally know just how hard it must be. It’s always painful when there is too much month left at the end of your money.

And we totally understand how you feel. There are different stages that you have to go through, and sometimes they’re amplified at the end of the month.

They’re almost like the five stages of grief but revolve around your finances. And if you’re like me, your finances probably always give you grief anyway

Denial

The first stage is when you avoid your bank balance at all costs. You close your eyes at the ATM when it gives you your receipt which has your remaining balance written on it. You pay with your debit card at the check out counter and pray that it doesn’t decline. You’re in total denial about your finances and how bad they have gotten.

Anger

Your anger is directed at EVERYONE. At your friends for wanting to hang out at expensive restaurants when you have no money. At your boss for not paying you more. And mostly at yourself for not handling your finances better and landing yourself in this crappy broke situation once again.

Bargaining

You have a tiny amount of money left and lots of things to spend on. You continuously bargain with yourself that this is your LAST purchase for this month but somehow you end up spending again. It’s a vicious cycle that repeats itself and never works.

Depression

Now that you literally have no money left, you are just straight up depressed. The end of month usually a dark time for most people. What’s the point of getting out of bed when you don’t have any money? There are barely any activities that you can do that don’t involve money. This is the point you’re at your lowest, both emotionally and in terms of your bank statement.

Acceptance

The last stage is when you see the end of your being broke near. Payday is fast approaching, you’re doing better. You plan ways you will ensure that you do not overspend the following month and thus avoid being broke. You bravely decide not to order out every day! You have accepted that what happened was terrible but you will never be broke again.

And honestly, that’s a lie that we all need to tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better.

What is the worst part of being broke for you? Let us know in the comments.
