When you’re hit with stress, it can sometimes feel like you’re trying to dig yourself out of a never ending hole. Stress can take a toll on not only your mind, but also your body. High levels of stress can have negative effects on the body such as hair loss, headaches, high blood pressure, and constant fatigue.
Here are some things you can do to reduce stress now:
1. Go for a drive
Go anywhere, doesn’t matter where you’re going, what matters is that you tune out everything else and just focus on calming yourself with the silence (or music, if you like) and the wind in your hair because you’ve rolled down the windows.

Granted the traffic in Pakistan isn’t great, but getting in the car and driving down a long empty road can help you relax.
2. Change up your surroundings and go for a walk or a run

Exercise helps lower stress hormones, gives you confidence, and helps you sleep. Head to a local park or track and walk, jog, or run to your heart’s desire.
3. Laugh

Watch funny videos, check out MangoBaaz on YouTube or put on a comedy movie. Laughing is the best exercise after all.
4. Light a candle

Burning scented candles can help you feel calm. Specific scents like lavender, rose, and orange are especially soothing.
5. Put all your stressful thoughts on paper

Try to get the thoughts out of your head and onto paper. This helps you release the burden of overthinking.
6. Spend time with friends and family

Going to lunch with your friends or watching a movie with your family can help you feel level headed and calm. Social support can assist you through a stressful time.
7. Listen to music

Have a jam session in your bedroom. Soothing music can have a positive effect on your brain.
8. Chew gum

Studies have shown that chewing gum promotes blood flow to the brain and that stress relief was greatest when people chewed more strongly.
9. Do breathing exercises

Practice taking deep breaths. Inhale…..one……two…..three……exhale.
10. Eat right

Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids; such as fish, walnuts, and spinach to reduce symptoms of stress. Decrease the amount of caffeine in your diet. Indulge in some dark chocolate. Sip herbal teas.
11. Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is key for a stress free life. Dim the lights, put your phone away, and try to relax before heading to bed.
