Mehwish Hayat, after receiving a lot of hate for her ‘Tamgha E Imtiaz’, finally spoke up against the trolls and stood her ground.
Debate all you like whether you think I deserve the award. Every1 is entitled to their opinions. I respect that. However, I draw the line when my character is questioned. I’ve been called a tawaif, a slut, a whore & much more so often that it has stopped affecting me. Cont..1/3

As the saying goes, ‘haters are gonna hate’, Mehwish’s post on Facebook had some pretty horrid comments come up under it.
The discussions are still the same; she did an item song and therefore is totally immoral and has no dignity. Despite her post on social media, people are not letting her go and keep shoving their point of view.
Thankfully, among all the negativity, fellow celebrity Shehzad Roy, tweeted out supporting Mehwish.
People waste no opportunity to tear down the Arts & women in PK. So ofcourse if a woman wins an award in Arts, all hell wud break lose.U @MehwishHayat won the debate tht followed & created an enabling enviroment for women from arts to come fwd.& when they do,trolls wil think twice

You better bet that people left Shehzad Roy with some of their thoughts.
ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!! Trolls are not just for criticism they are genuine views of sometimes very reasonable ppl too. Wake up !!

Dear shahzad, FYI Babra shareef has also won award and she is also from art, noboday raise a single finger. How she won the debate? The question is whats her contribution in art just three to four movies. I condemn all the shit regarding her character assassination.

No, it is NOT about women winning an award. Please stand corrected. Don’t spread misunderstandings. This lady is just not deserving enough. There are many other women in the same field of art who are more deserving. Promoting Nudity certainly does not call for Tamgh e Imtiaz.

One argument that keeps coming up is that Mehwish does not deserve the award and that others deserve it over her. This is a discussion that happens the world over whenever there’s an award involved. Think about the Oscars, or heck even the Lux Style Awards- people often feel someone else deserved recognition, however, they don’t blame the actual winner for it. It makes no sense to attack Mehwish for something she has no control over. People have gone beyond their opinion of her deserving the award- they’re attacking her morality and her past. The fact that people don’t find this type of attack problematic is problematic in itself.
Mehwish responded to Shehzad Roy and asked the Entertainment Industry to step up.
It is so refreshing to see that sane voices still prevail. I think that this is a watershed moment. The industry needs to come together and fight this abuse that we are all subjected to. Lets make something good come from it. https://t.co/kqWvWseDJl

We see actors being trolled on a daily basis, however, this incident has gone on for far too long and only seems to be getting worse day by day. Mehwish is right in that the ‘industry’ needs to band together and stand up this kind of online trolling and bullying. Mehwish, or Shehzad Roy for that matter, cannot stand up against these trolls alone.
Trolling has become way too commonplace here in Pakistan, and public figures and bullied online for the smallest things. Is there any way this can stop, or at least become a less frequent occurrence?
