“I know looks aren’t everything, but I have them just in case.”
Sadaf is Pakistan’s badass sweetheart of the modelling world, for me at least. In the Pakistani modelling industry, the bolder you are, the more susceptible you become to the trolls who condemn you to hell. Sadaf is one of those defiant models who couldn’t really care less about what people think, and it transcends just her editorial shoots – be it whether she’s jetting off to an exotic city to model for a brand or having the time of her life on her time off, she is the one model who inspires me with what I like to call the ‘zero-bullshit’ policy. Because hunni, let me tell you – Sadaf couldn’t care less about what people think.
Her recent holiday in the Maldives was criticized just because of her choice of clothes (*eye roll*), yet the model brushed it off posting more pictures of her in what felt like utopia (you do you girl).
I don’t know how she does it. One minute she’s at a bridal shoot, and the next she’s letting loose at a party – that too squeezing in ample family time amidst all the hullaballoo. Being a mainstream model is tougher than being an actress because your career is essentially helmed by the peddling fashion scene where clothes are getting bolder, and shoots are becoming all the more, well some would call ‘controversial.’
She’s been at the centre of a few moments of controversy when for example, asked about her views about the Me Too Movement, she said “you know aap ke saath Me Too jab ho, tab boldo. Baad mein apko yaad aa raha hai Me Too. So, I think jab ho boldo.” While this comment was criticized, she was just being honest and gave her opinion – a bold, bold move.
Her unapologetic nature and fabulous confidence are evident in her Insta captions like “#Theythinkicare 😃,” “Of course you miss me. I’m amazing #justsaying 😀..!!” Even in her cryptic, Tumblr-esque posts that are manifestations of who she is; “She’s mad but she’s magic. There’s no lie in her fire.”
In a recent catfight that started after actress Mansha Pasha said that “the women of this industry need to step up and learn to speak better,” Sadaf’s response was A WINNER.
From stole my husband from my best friend and cheated on my fiancee, to jab Me Too hota hai ussi waqt kiyon nahi boltein, to quotes from Uncle Ben and your friendly neighbourhood spider-man.
The women of this industry need to step up and learn to speak better.

Sadaf hilariously took to her Insta stories and cheekily responded with “hum apko kapre pehana seekhate hai ap hamey bolna seekhado.” She was attacked for a comment that could have been interpreted in many ways, and Sadaf was perfectly aware that things were blown out of proprotion – so she did was she thought was best; she took it lightly and clapped back brilliantly.
She’s unswerving in what she ch0oses to wear, and it’s only helping us progress as a society. You can’t judge someone by what they choose to wear, but it’s 2019 and people in this country can’t seem to gnaw their way out of that incredibly misogynistic and deplorable mentality. When I see Sadaf wear invincible sarees or cropped tops, I get intrepid confidence to do the same.
In the words of Sadaf Kanwal, “always classy never trashy and a little bit sassy. 💫⚡️.”
