‘Hindi Medium,’ starring Pakistani actress Saba Qamar and Indian actor Irrfan Khan was both a critical and commercial success. While Irrfan hardly shies from the less mainstream choice in Indian cinema, Saba took a slight risk venturing into a film that had less star power than say, Mahira’s ‘Raees.’ Nonetheless, the actress seized the opportunity by its horns. A few months later, and Saba has earned her first Filmfare nomination for ‘Best Actress,’ (the first of six stellar nominations for the film).
‘Hindi Medium’ is Saba’s Bollywood debut, and is about a couple who wish to see their daughter study in one of Delhi’s top schools
The film was lauded by critics, as it addressed strawn out elitism scattered in India. Saket Chaudhary has just a bundle of films as director (‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects,’ and ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’), and also served as the writer for the Kareena-Shah Rukh starrer ‘Asoka.’

A sequel was allegedly in the works, according to producer Dinesh Vijan, the man behind backing films like ‘Finding Fanny,’ ‘Love Aaj Kal,’ ‘Cocktail’ and ‘Badlapur.’ He was excited about the concept of a sequel after the response from audiences and critics, however, it was all on the surface.
Saba spoke to APP and confirmed the sequel, stating ‘I hope my hard work has brightened the name of Pakistan and our film industry globally’
The actress expressed her delight that she had received ‘positive response’ for her ‘first venture in (the) neighboring country.’ Producer Bhushan Kumar also confirmed that a script was ready, and pre-production had already begun for the sequel.
