Here's How You Can Start Taking Photos Like Professionals, With Just Your Phone

By Momina Mindeel | 7 May, 2017

If you are an avid traveler and an instagrammer or just someone who likes to take really, really good photos, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s the low down on all the basic stuff you need to know to get you on the road to taking professional-like photos everywhere and anywhere.

1. First off, regardless of how pretty a picture naturally is, you will probably need to fix a hue, a color there so don’t be afraid of using these tools to help you

2. But don’t overdo filters and editing apps

These tools are to help you uplift an image that was good, not to “illustrate” one from scratch.

3. Fiddle around with your camera app and test all its features

I never knew I could take panoramic pictures with my phone until a month ago.

4. Horizontal photos could be easier to upload on Instagram if that’s your primary platform you’re taking the photo for

5. Under-exposed photos are a key to add that sexy, stylish look that all your favorite fashion stars are doing

6. If your photos are too bright i.e. over-exposed there’s not much that you can do to edit them and make them more “current”

7. Good travel photos are mostly about less human and more about the world

Let your travel photos be more about the place you’re in to capture that memory rather than being about your face. You can always take selfies anywhere.

8. But if you really, really have to be a part of the photo try being involved in some sort of activity and not just posing for the picture

9. Natural light is best but softer dusk light also works as it will help create subtle silhouettes

10. Keep your eyes open for “moments”, exercise your observational skills

If you are taking a picture with the sky in the background, wait for some birds to pass by. Or try incorporating the sun rays or clouds.

11. Make contrast and sharpness your friends

Use them wisely.

12. As cliched as it sounds, vintage filters are SO COOL

13. Get a waterproof case for your phone or camera so you’re not limited by the elements

Why? I think it’s pretty self-explanatory

Now, thank me when you get all those likes and hearts on your photos from now on =P
