Tensions between in India and Pakistan have been boiling for months now. Political relations between both countries have deteriorated to the point that entertainment figures on both ends have been forced to choose sides. While the ban on Pakistani artists in India hasn’t been made official, filmmakers on the other side have still shown reluctance when it comes to cross border partnership. With both Saba Qamar for “Hindi Medium” and Mahira Khan for “Raees” not allowed to tour India for pre-release promotions, it’s safe to assume that much of this has to do with fear of possible backlash from the public.
Which is especially why it comes as a breath of fresh air when famed Indian comedian Paresh Rawal expresses his desire to collaborate with Pakistani filmmakers.
We all know Paresh Rawal from his memorable performance in several Bollywood movies:

For starters, he played the quick witted Babu Rao in “Hera Pheri”.
Alongside Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty.

He is also played Teja in our childhood hot favorite “Andaz Apna Apna”.
Sharing the screen with Salman Khan and Amir Khan.

Suffice to say Paresh Rawal has truly made his mark in the Indian film industry. The actor is now an activist, philanthropist and a member of the Parliament.
Recently, he made the news owing to some controversial remarks made against celebrated author Arundhati Roy widely known for her secular worldview.
‘”Instead of tying stone-pelter on the Army jeep, tie Arundhati Roy,” Paresh Rawal wrote on Twitter.
He soon took down the tweet after attracting negative criticism from the public.
and this worthy gent is a member of parliament from Ahmedabad and the ruling party! Jai ho! https://t.co/Wa6wGDmjJF

Am deeply moved by your empathy that brings every character to life in movies. But I'm shocked by your ability to be so violent with words!

However, when it comes to Pakistani entertainment industry, the famed comedian had nothing but praises.

In an interview with Press Trust of India, the actor comedian said that he fully appreciates the Pakistani film and drama industry for their storylines.
“Yes, I would love to work in Pakistani films and shows. I love all Pakistani TV serials like ‘Humsafar’, the way they act, the story, the writing, the language…It’s all good”, he is quoted to have said.

Paresh Rawal noted that he is open to acting in Pakistani films and shows.
*Brb, thinking of all the castings and roles this man would fit right in*

Just to add icing on the cake, he described a majority of the Indian shows as ‘boring’.
Ouch.

Moreover, he went against any possible ban on Pakistani artists working in India.
“I believe that artists and cricketers don’t come and throw bombs. They are not terrorists, rather they bridge the gap between the two countries. But when the mood is not good why rake up issues at that time? It is better to stay with your country.” said Good Guy Paresh Rawal.

It is important for the Artists community to come together and continue this tradition of cross-border collaboration in their efforts to advocate for peace. Paresh Rawal’s sentiments as a celebrity, politician and an influencer carry a lot of weight.
That being said he also dissed the Pakistani Cricket team…
Pakistan in ICC champions trophy

7 June – South Africa
12 June – srilanka

But then again, it’s kinda, sorta justified in cricket. All in good fun.
