You may have heard the news, Uber is about to buy Careem for $3.1 billion. No, this is not a drill.
Careem and Uber are almost every Pakistanis go-t0 when it comes to getting a ride. Everyone has different opinions on both the companies depending on their experiences, thus Pakistanis have mixed reactions to this deal, and ultimately turn to twitter to vent their feelings.
Some worry about its affects on Pakistan’s entrepreneur community
If true, this would be a huge exit for a Pakistani entrepreneur, born and raised in Pakistan (and studied with me in college at LUMS). Most of Careem's tech was also developed in Pakistan https://t.co/HfKPv1uoqX

Many prefer Careem over Uber, and thus are afraid of the change of quality of Careem
Maybe it’s something to do with Careem being founded by a Pakistani and their trust in it more because of that? They believe that the company might not be run as efficiently as it has been, but rather, will downgrade.
Also would ruin the experience for Pakistani users in Pakistan. Careem is on a whole different level than uber in Pakistan.

Uber to acquire Careem in recent $3.1 bn agreement. It WILL result in pure monopoly in the coming years.

There are also those that think Careem should have been bought for less
Careem is rubbish. Not worth even $3.1 thousand
— Junooni (@cricjunooni) March 24, 2019
While others are worried for their safety
Careem is known to have a generally more proactive support system by Pakistani travelers because Uber’s online communication only method is a little jarring for some.
Uber buying Careem in 3.1 Billion, get ready for increase in harassment cases and complaints. @CareemPAK Kya se kya hogaya dekhte dekhte #Careem #Uber

Most are sad… like super sad
People who may not have a vehicle depend on companies like Careem daily, so they have a hard time letting go. Although the app will remain, the owner behind this app will change, which ultimately may change the company.
I like Careem more and this is making me sad 😭

Did we mention how upset people are?
unbelievable !!! not good for consumers… I always find Uber rates expensive than Careem
— Rehan M. R. Arshad (@RehanToday) March 24, 2019

More on the bright side:

Wise move by Careem
— Syed Adnan Asrar (@Aliyish) March 24, 2019
So, here’s saying goodbye to Careem, I guess
#Uber to buy @CareemUAE. I just hope @Uber takes a leaf out of Careem’s customer service book. Congrats to Careem founders, you’ve done an excellent job with this platform. https://t.co/XuXyxlTBg4
