These Pakistanis And Indians Have Started A Journey To Friendship With Music And It's So Heartwarming

Pakistanis and Indians came together recently through a virtual cross-border open mic session, organized by Aaghaz-e-Dosti.

The entire session, where Pakistanis and Indians were in contact through a video call, was a celebration of cross-cultural similarities, as well as differences.

Most importantly, it was a celebration of art and music.

Organized by the India-based team at Aaghaz-e-Dosti that constantly aims to eradicate misconceptions on both sides of the border, the event united citizens from Delhi and Lahore for various performances.

The entire purpose of the event was to promote art, music, and culture through an interactive session.

Pakistanis and Indians displayed their talent for both sides to experience through the various performances that took place. Language was not seen to be a barrier either, as songs in Bhojpuri were belted out as well. Instrumental performances were given, Sufi songs were performed and there was even a drum solo. People were deeply immersed under the spell of each performance.

A question-answer session was also held where various thoughts were exchanged across the border.

Questions such as “Do Muslims in Pakistans go to Mandirs?” were also posed to many. A sense of communication was established and, by the end of the event, many concerns and questions were addressed amicably. Another uniting factor were artists that have worked across the border. When Lahoris asked the people from Delhi about their favorite singers, most of the answers focused on Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

All the participants appreciated the campaign immensely and were grateful to be a part of the Open Mic event.

Aaghaz-e-Dosti, to quite an extent, did what the name suggests – initiate a dialogue among participants from two countries that rarely see eye to eye, despite a bevy of cultural similarities. By the end of the session, both sides were in agreement over the fact that peace and tolerance among Pakistanis and Indians are necessities for the two countries. The casual remark about how the entire visa process should be easier was also made.

Initiatives such as Aagaz-e-Dosti are a great way to try to bridge the gap that exists between Pakistanis and Indians. For two nations that share an incredible amount of history – and culture, to a huge extent – it is high time that a sincere hand of dosti was extended from either side.
