Meet Sheece Khan
Sheece is an A’levels student with an with an exceptional eye for art and design.
He is a gifted artist despite having vision in only one eye.
Sheece was born with congenital glaucoma and has been receiving medical attention along with surgeries since he was only 7 months old.
While speaking to MangoBaaz, Nadia, Sheece’s mother spoke extensively about his condition.
“Sheece was operated and got implants before he turned 1. As he turned 4, doctors advised us to avoid burdening him and luckily, the school was very cooperative but no matter how careful and vigilant you are, something unexpected can always happen, this was the beginning of his blindness in one eye.”
Something as simple and harmless as a poke in the eye would land him in the hospital.
One accident after another followed and the final one was with a plastic ball which damaged his cornea.
“It was a long year and an excruciating ride, seeing multiple doctors, getting second opinions – all suggesting a transplant. Throughout this difficult time, Sheece embraced his passion for art. He drew and drew so many portraits that we couldn’t even keep track. After three years of the initial transplant, his body rejected the cornea which was donated by a Sri Lankan man.”
He is in terrible pain with no vision in his right eye, plus blisters as he uses bandage lens for pain relief.
Doctors suggest another surgery but having to go through the pain of it all is a hurdle Sheece hasn’t fully accepted yet. The dream of pursuing architecture became collateral damage in the fight for vision as he dropped Physics and Math.
Sheece is currently a student at Cedar College in Karachi, studying Business, World History and Art & Design. He also enjoys playing the guitar in his free time. Suffice to say, he is a gifted young boy and we wish him all the very best with his surgeries and all his future endeavors.
