There was a time in mid 2000s when Shoaib Mansoor, one of the finest director’s of Pakistan, produced Supreme Ishq having ‘Tere Ishq Nachaya‘ and ‘Bas Ishq Mohabbat Apna Pan‘ in that series.
‘Bas Ishq Mohabbat Apna Pan‘ was sung by Shabnum Majeed featuring the iconic, Iman Ali.
And the other song, a hauntingly beautiful rendition of ‘Tere Ishq Nachaya‘, was sung by Riaz Ali Qadri who had been a popular voice in music circles for his strong voice and his “modern” take on sufiyana kalaam
These songs still resonate with many as they represent some of the finest works of those simpler times back in the early 2000’s and late 90’s when we were all younger.
‘Tere Ishq Nachaya‘ has been reproduced many times over, since the Supreme Ishq moment but the humble man, Riaz Ali Qadri was not given enough credit for his rendition.
Well, Riaz sahab is back this time, after 13 years, to lend his powerful voice to the music industry of Pakistan
This week Fanoos‘ episode is bringing back the legend from our childhood, Riaz Ali Qadri. Zohaib Kazi, the man behind Fanoos who is working in collaboration with Patari, found Qadri living in the Radio Pakistan’s colony in Lahore where he has been working in the shadows with Radio Pakistan.
He brought him under the banner of Fanoos so that this gem will get recognition again.
Takhat Hazaran Ranjhanyo is a kalaam by Hazrat Mehar Ali Shah who was a Punjabi poet written in 1951. The song starts off slowly with harmonium dissolving in your ears making you dive in with its vanilla like melody. With tabla drumming to the beat of your heart, the song progresses and you find yourself unpacking your deepest feelings with Riaz sahab‘s powerful voice.
The new song is staying true to its Punjabi folk roots in order to preserve the essence of the beautiful melody
Kazi made sure to bring out that kind of Punjabi folk music which is as rich as the modern music that is being produced by using gazillion of instruments. Music touches more hearts when it is simple and plain with lyrics having rich Punjabi history and references.
You can listen to the whole song at Patari here.
