Calligraphy breathes new life into words, stories and even prayers. The ability to turn something as plain as text into something that’s dynamic and eye catching is quite something. We’re exposed to calligraphy in our society a lot and because we see it so often, sometimes we forget to appreciate its beauty.
To remind us of the beauty that is Urdu and Arabic calligraphy, we’ve put together some of the most mesmerizing Pakistani Instagram accounts. Prepared to be wow-ed.
Sehar Shahzad: @seharshahzad
The thing with calligraphy, it looks gorgeous even when someone is practicing the art
But nothing beats the final product Sehar created. Its as if the words have come alive
And when all the words and verses are brought together, they form an almost perfect image. Sehar’s works have been displayed at major exhibitions in Canada, where she lives. Her work truly deserves the praise and attention it gets.
Rawaz: @rawazhammas
While Sehar’s work was a bit more traditional, Rawaz’s work brings calligraphy to the modern world. He makes his masterpieces by a process called ‘digital painting’. The results are equally as breathtaking.
Digital painting really does add more ‘zing’ to traditional calligraphy. It forces you to look at it and captivate your imagination and thoughts
However the digital format still doesn’t take away from the ‘bringing to life’ affect the art form has on words. Its still as captivating and innovative.
Ranaaz Shahid: @ranaazshahid
Ranaaz’s work is mostly on different mediums. She doesn’t use the usual paint on canvas methods, she uses glass, silk and other crazy stuff us simpletons wouldn’t think of using.
Oh and this timelapse of her at work is absolutely hypnotic to watch. *plays on repeat*
Ranaaz’s really does venture out with her color choices and patterns, and that’s what makes her stand out from the rest
Zaheer Abbas: @zaheer._.abbas
Zaheer is a visual artist who occasionally delves into calligraphy. This take on the art form is quite different to the rest of the accounts featured to far.
He uses it to tell a different story all together. The words help to add character and chaos to the worlds he creates on canvas.
And this timelapse video will make it look SO easy, but lets be real IT ISN’T
Omar Uddin: @omarucalligraphy
Omar works primarily for interior works that adorn masjids etc. But he also ventures out on occasion
His work is truly awe inspiring. Just take a look at this!
If you’re having a stressful day, just sit back and watch this. Really watching this stuff feels therapeutic
Furqan Bangash: @furqan_bangash
Furqan is slowly learning and achieving mastery in not only calligraphy but in other art forms also.
He asks if his ‘calligraphy is improving’ but come on, it already looks really perfect
Oh man! Calligraphy is just soo awesome
