‘Mein Khayal Hoon Kisi Aur Ka’ has been creating some online buzz for a while now. May it be the fact that Ali Rehman Khan and Hareem Farooq came back together on TV, or that newbies Alamdar Hussain and Rucksar Naaz may be the breath of fresh air (talent wise) we all needed!
The first episode was aired on TV last night, and of course, we HAD to watch it.
The focus of the story is the love between Dania (Hareem Farooq) and Zaryab (Ali Rehman Khan).
In fact, the show begins with Zaryab announcing to Dania that his mother is coming over to her place that night. It all seems perfect and happy. But let’s be real, itna happy first episode hota, tou drama nahin chalta.
On their way to Dania’s house, baaton baaton mein, we find out that Zaryab is not his parent’s bioligical child. Their actual son is Armaan (Alamdaar Hussain). Armaan actually lives in the UK and is visiting Pakistan.
Finally, Dania enters to Zaryab and his mom but wait, stuff is about to get ugly. As his mother asks for Dania’s rishta, and is about to put a ring on it (this was legit one of the most chill engagements ever) she breaks the news that the rishta was not for Zaryab, as Zaryab had thought, but rather for her actual son, Armaan.
Just like that their lives are changed. Dania looks to a confused Zaryab for help but he’s silent. The rishta is made and Dania runs to her room.
When her dad follows her, they talk about how he feels indebted to Zaryab’s father, Safdar sahab for helping him out when he needed it. Dania fights back but her father delivers one of the drama’s first intense dialogue. ‘Aik kamzor aadmi ki mohabbat se behtar hai aik bahadur aadmi ki izzat’.
Also just by the way, the dad is a heart patient so yeah, they just threw that in there!
Now all this time, one would think Zaryab’s mom is conniving AF and that his younger brother is equally clueless; but NO! He saw Dania once and fell in love and based on that interaction, he decided that she was made of him and that they must marry. To be fair, Zaryab never told Armaan about his feelings, but like excuse me, everyone else in the show knows the Zaryab likes Dania; the mom knows, Zaryab’s dad knows, Dania’s dad knows and even a random rishtedaar who we see at the end of the episode knows. Come on Armaan!
So mummy jee tells her husband (the boys’ dad) about the mangni AFTER it happens. He too is shocked and tells her off for ruining things. She brushes it off but the thought lingers in his mind. This triggers a visist to Dania’s house, where he forces her dad to make sure Dania is comfortable. When he does ask her, Dania drops a pretty massive truth bomb.
‘Aisay kyu hota hain ke dou mardon ke izzat ke wajah se aurat hi qurban hoti hai ‘
Actually, her dialogues throughout the show are pretty powerful. Another great example of this is when she’s talking to her friend (who’s a total bitch btw, like in the whole post engagement scene, instead of consoling her, she takes the ‘I told you so’ stance)
‘Main kya karun, mein armaan ke baba ke ehsanaat ke neechay dubbi wi hoon, baba jin ke liya dosti, beti se zyada aziz hai, aur beti, jiss jo sab se zyada aziz baba hai.’
The rest of the episode is Armaan pushing Zaryab to get married to his one true love (who he doesn’t know is his own fiance), and then telling Dania about helping him find Zaryab’s true love. All the while Armaan is blind to the fact that he’s in between true love.
This entire episode then ends with Armaan’s and Dania’s mehndi, where we see the slightest of jhalkis of Rucksaar. Hareem and Ali shine in the spotlight of the show and prove themselves to be good actors. It will be interesting to see how this intersection of brotherhood and love will end up. How long with Zaryab undying love for his brother overrule his supposedly undying love for Dania? How will the dynamics of these new relations and new boundaries play out in Dania’s life? And well will Rucksaar Naaz’s character make an entrance?
