These Are The Pakistanis Who Won BIG At The Masala Awards Last Night

By Sarah Babar | 14 Dec, 2017

The Masala Awards took place, last night, and it was one amazing event. With all the Bollywood and Lollywood taare zameen per, the event proved to not just be an awards ceremony, but the night was filled with love and warmth. And it was a very beautiful gathering of people from both sides of the border, to meet without worry. Another thing that meant a lot to us, as Pakistanis, was the amount of our people winning awards. So here is everyone who did us proud this year

Mahira Khan as the Asian Woman Of Substance

Mahira is known for her bravery, strength and resilience, in light of the recent controversies surrounding her.  Moreover, her film ‘Verna’ portrayed a female lead unlike we’ve ever seen before. Coming out of everything with her head held high, Mahira truly is a woman of substance.

Mawra Hocane bagged the Social Media Sensation award

Well if there’s one thing we all can be certain of, it’s the fact that Mawra Hocane has an absolutely manic social media following. With her hundreds of fanpages, and a very active social media presence for herself, this award is super well-deserved.

Saba Qamar was given the Breakthrough Performance In Film award

With her Bollywood debut, ‘Hindi Medium’, Saba changed the game for any and every Pakistani female lead actress working in Bollywood. She proved that you don’t have to be the damsel in distress to carry a film on your shoulders. Saba definitely set new standards in the industry, after Mahira Khan’s ‘Raees’, earlier this year.

Bilal Saeed proved himself as he received the Asian Music Sensation award

Bilal Saeed gave one of the biggest hits in Bollywood, this year ‘Teri Khair Mangdi’ for the Siddharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif starrer: ‘Baar Baar Dekho’

While Meera Jee didn’t get an award, she surely gave one

Of course, the night was incomplete without Meera Jee. She presented Arjun Rampal with his award for Contribution To Cinema. And she looked every bit of her fabulous self!

The Masala Awards proved to be a celebration of Pakistani art and artists, as the night progressed. And we can’t wait to see all our stars and starlets on stage receiving more and more awards. What are your thoughts on these amazing winners? Let us know in the comments before.
