For those of you who don’t know

Padman is a film dealing with menstrual problems in India and tries to debunk the misconceptions related to it in modern day India

The film highlights the need to maintain a good menstrual hygiene and the story is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu. He was the man who built machines in rural India to manufacture low cost sanitary pads for the women of the area.

Supporting such an initiative is something we should all be doing. Especially in reference to Pakistan, where 79 percent of women do not have a good menstrual hygiene. And it is not only because of lack of resources of funds to afford these items, but it also has to do with the shame and stigma attached with menstruation. The fact that we have stay mum about such matters and keep them under wraps is what spreads misconceptions. Menstruation is nothing to be ashamed of and can be discussed publicly. The idea is only to help each other, so let’s spare Malala from some unnecessary hate.
