Mahira Khan had a pretty rough 2017. We know that. You know that. India knows that. So does the rest of the world.
Our ghairat brigade’s relentless slut-shaming led to Mahira shutting shit down as the year ended. You’d think it’d be the last we’d hear about Mahira in a supposedly negative light. However, Pakistanis just can’t let her breathe. It’s almost like they forget that she’s given us incredible performances and remains a valuable asset to this country.
Khair, this particular instance revolves around this picture that Mahira shared on Instagram.
Pretty harmless, right? Homegirl’s chilling, she’s got her feet upar. You know, fundamental celebrity stuff. Plus, she looks AMAZING.
I mean…Seriously. She looks PHENOMENAL. See:
Ab hua yeh hai, ke kuch Pakistanion ko iss se bhi masla hai. Now, once this picture was picked up and circulated by publications, people kinda went ALL IN on Mahira. They didn’t hold back while slut-shaming her, unfortunately.
Honestly, people had EXTREMELY rude things to say.
Some people said she was trying to look Western.
Clearly, there’s a lack of awareness about the kind of clothes people can and do wear now in Pakistan too.
Some likened the set-up to porn…
…while some straight up likened her to a pornstar.
Simply because she’s wearing a dress. Please keep that in mind.
Some even considered her to be a part of some “yahoodi saazish.”
Again, ALL because of one picture. Let that sink in.
And others unjustly drew on a past incident to ridicule her.
It truly doesn’t take much for us to forget to be grateful towards people who’ve given us reasons to be proud as Pakistanis.
Mahira has proven, time and again, to be a strong, determined figure of empowerment. Moreover, she has single-handedly won hearts worldwide. But apparently, it doesn’t mean much to us when we’re blinded by this immovable wall of judgment. Till we hold a mirror to our own selves, we’ll never learn. Perhaps next time, we’ll look within ourselves instead of frantically finding to mud to sling on people who deserve better.
