Unfortunate news has been making rounds this morning as it was announced that the Central Board of Film Certification, (CBFC) Islamabad has banned Shoaib Mansoor’s film ‘Verna.’ The film touches upon a narrative of abuse and rape, and stars Mahira Khan and Haroon Shahid in the leads – and it is this very premise upon which ‘Verna’ has been banned.
A source told MangoBaaz earlier that the film has now been banned, and is pending review
In an official statement by ‘Hum Films’ ” filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor has gone into appeal with censor board today for urgent relief for his film ‘Verna.’ The film will hopefully be reviewed by full board today and we are hoping that the full board will prevail.”
Haroon took to Twitter to post his take on the ban, using the film’s song lyrics, ‘Power Di Game’

And Mahira has now spoken to news channel ‘Dunya,’ expressing her dismay and shock over the film being banned and pending review by the board
She stated how saddened she was at the announcement, and also mentioned how unfair it was for the venerated Shoaib Mansoor. She spoke on behalf of the team and said she still had hope that the film will, in fact, be released on time without any further hindrance. The actress lamented the decision of the censor board and said that the film was raising incredibly important social issues, before stating she was confused over why such an unjust decision would be made.
