Mahira Khan made us all proud when she represented Pakistan at the Cannes Film Festival. She wow-ed not only us, but the world with her looks throughout her time there.
She stuck with modern designs but also ventured into traditional silhouettes and pairings.
Even though we loved her looks, most of us really wanted to see her in desi clothes. She looks phenomenal in her traditional looks, and what better stage than Cannes to show off desi culture.
In a recent interview, the interviewer, Fifi Haroon, spoke all our minds when she asked her why she didn’t wear Pakistani designers to Cannes. Fifi went as far as saying that Mahira’s red carpet look was pretty ‘predictable’.
Mahira Khan said that she really wanted to go desi to Cannes, however, the timing didn’t allow for her to get something made for her. In the interview, she revealed that she was eyeing Pakistani designer, Bunto Kazmi, for her Cannes look but sadly didn’t have the time to arrange something with her. According to Mahira, being a first timer to walk down Cannes’ red carpet is pretty hectic and chaotic.
To top things off, Mahira’s actual dress for the red carpet was stuck at customs, which ended up in her wearing the backup dress.
Apart from the fashion, Mahira described her experience at Cannes as one of a kind. She got to meet celebrities from all across the world and make connections with them too. Mahira also talked about how she was washed with pride when her name was called out with the name of her country; ‘Mahira Khan from Pakistan’. She said that whenever her name is called out with Pakistan she feels immensely proud. She said it’s as if her last name is Pakistan!
Towards the end, Mahira vowed that the next time we’d see in at Cannes she would either be wearing a peshwa, gharara or a lehnga, or maybe all three.
