In today’s episode of Time To Leave This Planet: Stupidity reaches sky high as local textbook author claims that tips for being healthy is to “not be poor”.
Where do I begin? So, this textbook called the Fundamentals of Community & Preventive Dentistry by Nazli Gul Ghani exists, which does all of that while swaying away from the actual topic. Because why not?
The book which is being taught in top-notch private Medical and Dental institutions in Lahore outright gives some very concerning tips for healthy living.
Just came across something today thats being taught at one of the supposedly premier private medical / dental institutions in Lahore that enraged me at another level. This is a page from a Community Dentistry book compiled by & taught by local authors. What the fuck is this even? pic.twitter.com/PkSOl9huW6

Let’s go step by step and try and understand the absolute privilege that the author is coming from because clearly, the author doesn’t.
Tip 1: Don’t be poor. If you can, stop. If you can’t, try not to be poor for long.
My entire life had been a complete lie because no one ever told me that being broke was a choice that I could let go of. I’m looking at all of my bills right now in utter shock as I type this, thinking do I even need to write articles anymore to earn and pay them or should i just stop. and fabulously become rich because I can???
Tip 2: Don’t have poor parents.
I have already packed my bags and I’m now going to force our filthy rich neighbors to adopt me because that’s a choice that we can all make for ourselves.
Tip 3: Own a car
Or I can go steal one because I am now the queen of the world. It’s all about choice, my friends.
Tip 4: Don’t work in a stressful, low paid, manual job.
This article is now being written by itself because I have refused to do any manual labor. Bills will get paid themselves. World poverty is so 2018. It’s raining money and we’re all sitting in it because sorry, no manual, stressful labor.
Tip 5: Don’t live in damp, low quality housing.
All kachi abadi waalas are now shifting to Defence. Life’s good. Karachi has been restored to its original plan because we all chose to live rich. Thank you, Supreme Court.
We all own castles now, it’s decided.
Tip 6: Be able to go on foreign holidays and sunbathe.
Honduras is the new Hyderabad and we live for that Vitamin D. #sunkissed #livingmybestlife
Tip 7: Practice not losing your job and don’t become unemployed.
Wait… I thought we weren’t supposed to do any manual labor… or any at all… I’m already unemployed…
Tip 8: Take up all the benefits you are entitled to: if you are unemployed, retired, sick or disabled.
Already have, that’s how we’re all rich. Remember?
Tip 9: Don’t live next to a busy road or near a polluting factory.
We’re all, by now, obviously living in KJO movie sets.
Tip 10: Learn to fill in the complex housing / asylum application forms.
I thought you don’t really have to fill in those forms yourself when you’re rich… What…?
Honestly, though, we all have just one question: WHAT WERE THE AUTHORS EVEN THINKING?
This just doesn’t reek privilege, but also sheer ignorance. In a country where a large chunk of the population lives below the poverty line, through no fault of their own, it is absolutely disgraceful to even think that poverty is an option that we get to choose for ourselves.
What is even more tragic is the fact that such a thing has been approved to be taught at top-notch medical schools of this country.
Here’s the question: is there absolutely no review board that reads through a book and decided whether or not it should be passed? Is there no standard through which a curriculum is made?
And most importantly:
How do you think students that come from humble backgrounds will receive this privileged, entitled drivel?
Are we that far removed from reality where being insensitive out of our fucking minds just comes so naturally to us?

What’s even more outrageous is that the lecturers have been justifying the text…
I’ve been told the lecturer in question has been justifying all this in her lectures and sticking to this as facts! I feel sorry for the poor students! It makes me incredibly enraged

One person rightfully mentioned how texts like these have the potential to destroy an entire generation:
Lowest of the low and we wonder what’s happening with millennials since every other person is suffering from certain level of anxiety and stuff. Such text has the potential of destroying a generation yet nobody would be interested In fixing it, unfortunately.

Some people have managed to find the source of the text and are concerned whether the textbook is being taken out of context. However the story with the lecturers says otherwise.
Maybe there is, but it hasn’t been presented or explained by the professors in question. I have spoken to many students in LMDC who have no clue what this is and fail to understand what it means. Worst part is it is being justified and explained

Whatever the context is, it is absolutely outrageous that such a thing even became a part of the textbook in the first place.
What do you think about the text? Let us know in the comments.
