Sonam's Mean Comment On Kangana's #MeToo Story Has Started A Tussle Between The Actresses

By Nai Dulhan | 8 Oct, 2018

Several women who have come forward with their heart wrenching stories of sexual assault and misconduct by men over the past year. What’s astonishing is the fact that many of these women are celebrated celebrities who appear to be strong, independent women which only goes to show how rampant sexual harassment and deviant behavior by men has been.

With the arrival of #MeToo in India and Tanushree Dutta leading the wave, many women have come forward with their stories. One of them is the “Tanu Weds Manu” actress, Kangana Ranaut who was brave enough to share her experience

She openly accused Vikas Bahl, director of Kangana’s movie “Queen”, of sexual misconduct and making her feel uncomfortable on the sets of the movie back in 2014.

While many people bashed Kangana on these claims, saying that she was just seeking cheap attention, several others praised her for her bravery and courage for finally coming forward and letting the world know about what she went through.

One of the people who doesn’t believe Kangana’s story is apparently Sonam Kapoor

Recently at the Vogue We the Women summit in Bengaluru Sonam Kapoor, who is an avid flag bearer of justice against sexual misconduct, was asked about how she feels about Kangana Ranuat’s claims against director Vikas Bhal’s inappropriate behavior on the sets of “Queen”.

“I think Kangana wrote something. Kangana is obviously Kangana Ranaut. She says a lot of stuff and sometimes is hard to take her seriously. I love the fact that she has spunk and she says what she believes. I really respect for that. I don’t know him, I don’t know the situation. If what is written what is written is true, then it’s disgusting and awful. If it’s true, then they should be punished for it”, Sonam is reported to have said.

Sonam saying “it’s hard to take her seriously” about Kangana did not go down well and Kangana fired back at Sonam

In an interview Kangana was reported saying that Sonam has no right to judge her and make comments. Kangana said,“what does she mean by saying, “its hard to believe Kangana” When I am sharing my me too story, who gives her a right to judge me? So, Sonam Kapoor has the license of trusting some women and some she won’t…What makes her so unsure of my claims?”

Kangana didn’t back down and further said that, “I am known to be an articulate person, I have represented my country in many international summits, I am called as a thought and youth influencer to these summits, I am not known because of my dad I have earned my place and credibility after struggling for a decade.”

She also stated, “She [Sonam Kapoor] isn’t known to be a great actress, neither she has the reputation of being a good speaker. What gives these filmy people right to take digs at me!!!! I will demolish each one of them.”

Ouch!

While the media enjoyed the feud between the two Bollywood celebrities, Sonam personally addressed the situationn on her Instagram

Sonam attributed her initial comment to the media “misquoting” her

She said that media had misquoted her and used her words out of context, which upset some “women”, clearly pointing towards Kangana and her response against Sonam. She also addressed Kangana’s jab at nepotism being the reason for Sonam’s career by saying that she is proud of her roots and everyone else should be proud of theirs as well.

So far, there hasn’t been a response statement by Kangana Ranaut, but we hope that these two powerhouses resolve whatever conflict seems to be brewing.
