Here Are All The Things To Do When It's Your Ex's Shaadi

By Aam Nawab | 25 Jan, 2019

It’s that time of year again.

Though Shaadi season is the best time of year in Pakistan, the glitz and glam and romance can fade away pretty quickly if you are dreading it for a specific reason.

What’s that reason you may ask? Why it’s your ex’s wedding.

Yep, the day has finally come. The man in your life or the woman in your life – sorry, past life, has moved on and is ready to tie the knot with someone else. You may be completely over this person but just the fact that they are getting married to someone else? It can be a lot. SO,

For us to combat this day together, here are just a couple of things to do when it’s your ex’s shaadi.

Love you.

Friends and fries will make the time go by.

No matter what, a solid group of friends will always be the strongest card in your hand. Call them over, order a bunch of food and binge watch every comedy when the girl or guy always ends up okay, without their bae. 500 Days of Summer? Top pick. Or also just watch all the scary movies ever and forget that there was such a thing as sadness.

Ignore all social media and have yourself a nice little freeze-out.

Social media is where all the details live. Ignore the wedding hashtag, the tagged pictures and all the Insta stories of your ex’s big day. This is obviously easier said than done but it is doable and more than that, it is very effective. But like, loads of luck for this one.

Stay at home and process everything on your own.

This is for those of you who would rather be on your own through this time, if you feel like it will make things easier, for sure stick to it. Light some candles, put a mask on and take your time to breathe in and out. Processing is hard but walking yourself through the emotions will be good for you.

Make a list of all the reasons it didn’t work out and why it was for the best.

Making lists can be very very helpful. Pen down all the reasons you guys were meant to go your separate ways and it will all make sense. Everything happens for a reason, so writing down the reasons you know will be much more helpful than you think.

Crash the wedding, lmao.

Lol but like, don’t do that. But like, go for it if you want hehe. If you’re gonna be sad, you might as well get a free meal out of it.

Read Mitch Albom’s’ ‘The Five People You Meet In Heaven.”

For those of you who are into books, this is a perspective changer. People come in and out of our lives for specific reasons. We may not know it when it hits us, but sometimes it’s all just part of a bigger plan. Now I am not getting religious here, just being a little open and it all came from this book! So give it a chance if you’re in the mood for it.

All endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time.”  – The Five People You Meet In Heaven.

Be upset.

It is one million percent okay to be sad when it is your ex’s wedding. Again, you may be completely over them, but the day may still feel heavy on you. So instead of keeping yourself busy and trying to forget what day it is, go ahead and just be sad. You’re only human after all.

Be positive.

Okay obviously I am sure you must have thought about this method before, but seriously, sit down and make a list of all the reasons why you love your life. And no sarcasm, though we love it, be properly honest about all the things that there are to be positive about and how grateful you are to have them.

Lolsy, whatever floats your boat!

So there you have it, folks, just a couple of things to consider doing when it’s your ex-man or ex-woman’s big day. Again, it may suck right now, but it won’t be like that forever.

Have any other ideas? Let us know in the comments below! Love you.
