Oh dear, Hum TV is in quite the pickle, and the network only seems to be digging its own grave ever so deeper. Hum TV came under fire after a large number of Pakistani celebrities were jetting off to Toronto, Canada prior to elections for the Hum Awards set to take place on Saturday, with many condemning the broadcasting network for planning their awards ceremony at the wrong time. While celebrities like Iqra Aziz and Samina Peerzada chose to stay back to cast their vote and then leave for Toronto, others like Farhan Saeed and Imran Abbas voiced their dismay over so many from the fraternity not prioritizing the elections.
Hum TV issued a statement on their Facebook page regarding the controversy
The broadcasting network stated that they had always portrayed Pakistan globally to be ‘positive and soft,’ and that the ‘date for the 6th Hum Awards was decided months in advance to the announcement of the election date.’ They stated that most celebrities were present in the country for voting, and only those ‘required for rehearsals had to leave earlier.’
Hum Network has always been very proud of being Pakistan’s most credible entertainment broadcast network.
Ever since its launch Hum Network has been a beacon of Pakistani dramas and format shows in all parts of the world (wherever there is Pakistani diaspora).
Over the years HUM NETWORK has become a global Pakistani brand portraying a POSITIVE & SOFT image of our country.
The date for 6th HUMAWARDS was decided months in advance to the announcement of election date. An event of this magnitude requires a lot of planning and preparation. Also, since a lot of resources have to be committed for the event and contractual commitments with international sponsors are made in advance it is not possible to change the date.
It is worth mentioning here that most of the Artists participating in the Awards have cast their votes today and then left for the Awards. However some had to leave earlier as they were required for rehearsals. It was a matter of prior commitment for them also.
As always we are confident that this event will go a long way in portraying a soft image of Pakistan globally and make all of us proud of being Pakistani.
Furthermore, Pakistan and Hum Tv are committed to this event for our global community and had contracts with various parties and people in Canada much before the election date was decided. We will not break our promise and contracts as we represent Pakistan. That can reflect bad on our country and people as we are struggling to show the world a different and positive face of Pakistan. We fulfill our contracts and promises and take our flag high across the globe
Last but not the least HUM NETWORK will proudly continue to work towards building the Pakistani brand on the global stage. #SupportHUMAwards #SupportPakistanGlobalImage#ISupportHUMAwards
However, the statement had a few plotholes present, which many quickly picked up on
The elections were announced a while ago, questioning Hum TV’s motive for going ahead with the awards ceremony that overlapped with the voting date. This user denounced the ‘soft image’ the network was trying to project, relaying how a ceremony did the complete opposite.
A few pointed out how the rehearsals weren’t really that necessary and could have been delayed so that celebrities could have cast their vote (also, why couldn’t they have rehearsed in Pakistan lol)
The statement received severe backlash for suggesting that the awards ceremony was more important than the elections.
Many expressed their disappointment for such a big platform being so frivolous in choice and decisionmaking.
