Here's Why Hadiqa Kiani Is The Queen That We Got But Never Deserved

By Arslan Athar | 30 Apr, 2017

Hadiqa Kiani is the undisputed queen of Pakistani music. But sadly we don’t appreciate her as much as she deserves. Dear Lord, what did we do to deserve her. She relentlessly is reinventing herself and churning out good music and some pretty trippy music videos.

She initially won our hearts with this Kashmiri folk song way back in her early days.

It was such a simple and beautiful song. And actually pretty cute too! And thus she became a household name.

Then came along THIS masterpiece. If you grew up in the 90’s you have definitely seen this, and LOVED it.

She really made her mark on Pakistani pop culture with this hit. PS I still listen to this song sometimes, I mean its pretty awesome.

And you’d think she’d be done after one HUGE hit but then came this number that propelled her into icon status in Pakistani music

I had actually forgotten what this song was called, so I literally searched ‘Hadiqa Kiani yellow dress song’ and was finally reunited with this masterpiece.

She continued to reinvent herself through the years, with songs like this one in her subsequent album:

And another one:

The concept of this song was totally unseen in Pakistani music at this time. If anyone really pushed the industry to where it is when it comes to visuals, it has to be Hadiqa Kiani.

Her skill lies in the fact that she’s been daring enough to experiment with different languages

Hadiqa Kiana, in 2007, released Pakistan’s first all English album. Yes, this is true. If you still aren’t convinced she’s a queen, then I don’t know what will.

In 2009, for her album Aasmaan she sang a Persian song.

High five if you remember Az Cashme Saqi word for word.

She even sang for Bol, the movie. Played the guitar and everything too.

After this Hadiqa Kiani sort of disappeared so we had to survive from what was left of her older music. She made a few appearances on Coke Studio and Pakistan Idol but she’s been slaying with this new album of hers

Wajd is Hadiqa Kiani’s latest project. She wants to highlight and celebrate the culture of Pakistan. This album will feature songs in languages from all provinces in Pakistan.

The first song to pop up online has been ‘Kamlee De Dhola’. Its a old Saraiki folk song, and boy is it hauntingly beautiful.

Bonus Fact: She’s the voice behind THAT heart wrenching Udaari title track

Hadiqa Kiani is a force within our music industry. She has constantly reinvented herself and has proven to be among the most versatile musicians the country have ever known. Wajd is just further proof of this.

Keep slaying Hadiqa Kiani. May you continue to reign over our hearts with your amazing music.
