Here's How Gohar Rasheed Proved That You Don't Have To Be A Chocolate Boy To Be A Hero

By Sarah Babar | 28 Nov, 2017

Gohar Rasheed has been one of the baddest boys in our entertainment industry. Whether it was as Mikaeel in ‘Mann Mayal’ or as Shaukat in ‘Digest Writer’, he’s been wowing us with his performances one after the other. Gohar has always been on top of his game when it comes to acting. The best thing that we like about Gohar’s acting is that it is very believable. He isn’t trying to make every shot look pretty, or look aesthetically pleasing, but you will understand the emotion that he’s trying to portray. And that’s why we’re sitting here, in awe of Gohar’s work. So here’s to Gohar showing us how there are other forms of acting, apart from being the lovey-dovey rom-com lead man.

Gohar has been a very active part of the Karachi theatre scene, from the very beginning

Having been in productions like Bombay Dreams, Moulin Rouge and ‘Sawa 14 August’, Gohar has not only been on top of his theatrical game but has also proven that no matter what the medium, he is going to give it his all.

His portrayal of General Zia Ul Haq in ‘Sawa 14 August’ was perhaps one of the most revered and appreciated

Apparently, his performance was so real that, according to Gohar, someone actually refused to shake hands with him at the curtain call.

His journey in the drama industry, too, has been a prolific one

Starting off with ‘Shikwa’ in 2014, he hasn’t looked back ever since and has done albeit selective, but spellbinding work.

So whether it was as Shaukat in Digest Writer

For one of his first few roles to be an abusive husband must have taken a lot out of an actor who was still trying to find his footing in the industry. After receiving a huge amount of praise for his work in the show, Gohar then got three more shows, right after.

Or the much loved-to-be-hated Mikaeel in ‘Mann Mayal’

As George RR Martin once told, Jack Gleeson, the actor who plays Prince Joffrey, ‘Congratulations, you’ve done an amazing job, everyone hates you’, Gohar’s character in ‘Mann Mayal’, was very similar in terms of just how much hate a character can get. A man who continuously tortures his wife, whether it is psychological or emotional. A man who has 2 children with a woman but still treats her like vermin, Gohar as Mikaeel did a fine job getting people to hate the character.

And now as, Naseeb – a hotel owner in a village – Gohar has once again proved his mettle, in ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’; this time as a caring husband who has a personality shift after he loses his wife

Naseeb is left to marry his late wife’s younger sister and his life completely changes from that point onwards.

Gohar is fun, he is easy to talk to, and for some reason, he gets along with everyone within the entertainment industry in Pakistan.

While speaking to MangoBaaz, Gohar said that he would pick method acting over being the chocolate boy hero, any time of the day. He doesn’t vie to be the main hero but instead likes doing alternative roles.

Baraan never fully converts into an extremist, as we see him showing his good side towards the end of the film.

He’s further breaking barriers with his latest film, ‘Rangreza’

Waseem Walley is shown to be a gunda with the works. We also see some bits of his life where his father is slapping him, asking him to stop slacking and do something with his life. Gohar also comes into this film with the only male ‘item song’ that has come out of the Pakistani film industry, yet.

More in breaking barriers in the entertainment industry, we see Gohar aka Waseem Walley dancing with 200 transgenders in this song

Known to be the best dancer on the sets of ‘Rangreza’, we have lots of hopes set on this one song.

What do you think of Gohar’s career thus far?
