Fatima Bhutto schooling with class, yet again

The Middle East has been in the news for quite a while now. The humanitarian crisis in Syria and Yemen and the atrocities committed in Palestine need no introduction. Almost all countries in the middle eastern region are trapped in a quagmire of manifold challenges which has resulted in a chaos of orders and borders. In a critical situation like this, the announcements by the American President have made people wonder If the US ‘really’ wishes to restore peace in the region.

So, basically, Trump announced that the US should now recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli territory

Golan Heights is an area between Syria and Israel (a very, very brief history of Golan Heights is mentioned below), part of which was captured by Israeli forces from Syria during the Six-Day War of 1967, and since then, it has been claimed by both countries.

The US president further stated that this particular piece of land- the Golan plateau has immense significance for regional stability. He asserted that recognizing this area as a part of Israeli territory will also give sufficient strategic and security benefit to the state of Israel.

This is what you need to know about the Golan Heights:

So, Golan Heights was a Syrian area which came under Israeli military occupation after the six-day war of 1967. Later in 1981, Israel unilaterally annexed the territory, this action by Israel remained unrecognized internationally. Now, President trump has recognized the sovereignty of Israel over Golan Heights while the other countries, Syria, Iran, and Russia have condemned this move.

Fatima Bhutto just trolled the US president for his inaccurate attribution of Golan Heights to Israel

She said that the action by Trump is understandable due to his negligible knowledge of geography and history because clearly the area was under Syrian control until Israel captured it after waging war.

The stance and views of Fatima Bhutto have been reiterated by many on social media.

The statement by Trump has naturally angered people all over the world, with many agreeing with Fatima’s sentiment

They argued by asserting that this is the clear violation of the resolution by the UN security council(UNSC)

A few pointed out that how Trump was constantly undermining International Law by his actions

People asserted that the US president is igniting new flames and has reversed the US policy

They said that the President knows NOTHING about the Golan Heights and is adamant to push the Middle region towards another war

The Syrians went on to personally attack The US president

Americans felt that Trump acted more like the President of Israel and had an obsession with Israeli interests

Some good old memes were re-visited

Well, unilateral decisions by countries should not be allowed to undermine international institutions and international law. Moreover, the countries should NOT be allowed to play with international law in order to serve their domestic interests or else this might lead to regional instability and can even lead towards a war.

So, what are your thoughts on the issue? Let us know in the comments below.
