Here's Everything I Thought About Mehreen Jabbar's ‘Dobara Phir Se' Trailer

By Arslan Athar | 11 Nov, 2016

2016 has been a great year for Pakistani cinema. Hit after hit, packed cinema halls and what not. Revival, I think we’re almost there.

You might be thinking this bubble will pop at any given moment, but there’s more coming and we are very excited. One project that’s particularly getting us buzzed up is ‘Dobara Phir Se‘. Dobara and then Phir Se? But like, that just literally translates to ‘Again Again’. I’m confused about the title but I trust the genius of Mehreen Jabbar and hope for the best.

The trailer for the movie is one for the history books

Well… because it’s just so darn long. If you don’t want to watch it, just read this summary (which is pretty general, so you might need to actually watch the trailer if you’re “intrigued”) :

The movie is about the life and times of a group of friends in New York, which will give you serious squad goals.

They have this awesome old red car and they go to the beach and have a picnic (Yes I know you can do the same at Hawkes Bay, but like New York is NEW YORK). Then one friend proposes to the other (awww) and all of a sudden we cut to Adeel Hussain’s character going all tharaki on Hareem and Tooba Siddiqui’s characters and you will be very lost.

Now, for a second forget the Adeel –tharki story because then it’s SHAADI TAAAAAIME in the movie.

However, then Adeel’s character proposes to Hareem’s, but before we can find out what she says we cut back to New York and everyone is pissed off at Adeel and is shouting at him, and of course everyone is crying. So, like there’s A LOT HAPPENING.

And before I forget there’s also a shot of someone taking off an engagement ring, and it’s like whoa, yahan kya horaha hai.

This very confusion in the trailer is what makes the movie so much more interesting.

Especially, for our desi auntie inspired curiosity over the ring removal shot, kis ki mangni toot gayee?!

The title track is catchy AF

Also if you listen carefully the movie’s name sort of makes sense, but only in the context of the song. I don’t know if seeing the video is making me say this but it just feels like such a ‘travelling with friends’ kind of song. No pagal over the top music in the background, it’s simple, elegant yet very fresh.

The other song that’s been released is Lar Gaiyaan, the SHAADI song

To be very frank, this probably won’t be the next BIG mehndi song but it is a decent song and could probably catch on. It isn’t a flashy gaana that will pierce your eyes but it’s funky and pretty fun.

On the surface, the movie seems like a traditional love story, but the songs and the trailer do give the movie a different vibe, at least to me. I really hope all this praise doesn’t blow up on my face when the movie actually comes out, but all said and done, I still can’t wait for it!

Lollywood Revival here we come 🙂
