Being a girl is not an easy task. When you aren’t fighting the patriarchy, you’re fighting something that’s much closer to home – body hair. A lot of women don’t prioritize the removal of body hair – which is cool. Their body, their choice. But for those of you who do, you know how much of a battle it is. One of the worst things about body hair is the kind that can’t be covered up under layers of clothes – basically your eyebrows.
Getting your eyebrows done at a desi beauty parlor is a chore like no other. Here is a complete breakdown of the stages of getting your eyebrows done:
To start off, you’ll start noticing the chotay chotay baal that start popping up

“It’s not too bad,” you think naively

Soon after though, the tiny baal grow start growing out and form a bushy outline

This is when you know you can’t put off the dreaded visit to your desi beauty parlor

With a heavy heart, you make your way to the parlor and prepare yourself for the torture your eyebrows are about to endure

On the way, you’ll curse yourself for not going earlier because you know damn well the extra hair will hurt even more while being plucked

You enter the parlor, prepared for the onslaught of judgment that the staff is about to throw your way

Your eyes scan the room for the only woman you trust with your eyebrows

And your heart sinks when you can’t seem to find her

However, soon she emerges like an angel and you know all is right with the world again

You sit down on the kursi of pain and silently follow her instructions, hoping to minimize the pain

But it doesn’t work because when was the last time life worked in your favor, right?

As your eyebrows are plucked brutally, you hold back the squeals of pain and take it all in your stride

You’re too scared to breathe because what if cut lag jaye

Finally, you breathe a sigh of relief when it’s over

However, now you’re distracted by how flawless your eyebrows look

You head back home feeling like an absolute queen

But soon remember that the flawless brows are temporary and you’ll probably need to head back in about a week or two

Getting your eyebrows done is one of the absolute worst things ever, but karna parhta hai. You’re either used to it or are still in the process of denouncing practices that the patriarchy has instilled in your mind. Is this what the process is like for you? Is it any different?
