Edhi Foundation is a revered institution, mostly for the much respected man who was behind it for so many years. The Foundation is possibly one of the best social, non-commercial welfare service providers across the world. It has given life to thousands of abandoned babies, homeless citizens, widows and senior citizens of the country and continues to do so even today.

Claims that funds to the organization dwindled rapidly after Edhi sahab‘s death made major news when it became public knowledge

Yesterday, Feroza Mohammed, an actress, shared a rather disturbing post on Facebook regarding the mismanagement that she apparently saw at an Edhi old age home in Karachi 

She shared some extremely horrible visuals depicting the terrible treatment of people, she claims, are staying at the Edhi old age home that she visited

Feroza explains that she was invited to an event at an Edhi old age home, along with a number of other celebrities to distribute food, under a campaign #FillAPlate

According to Feroza, when she reached there, she was appalled to see the state of the place. The ICU was teeming with patients’ urine, vomit and other excretions and the place smelled horribly. Furthermore, the mentally disturbed patients were all locked up in a cage that Feroza even shows through a short 10 second video.

Feroza explains in her post that she is not pointing any fingers at Edhi sahab or his family, she is just narrating what she saw and would like media and the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

Reaction to the claims have, obviously, been rather extreme

Many rejected Feroza’s claims as an attention seeking stunt

While others even tried to help her understand why her accusations against brands using Edhi’s names may be unfounded

While it is true that Edhi Foundation runs on donations, the fact that the elderly are being put through so much, if found true, cannot be sidelined.

The situation, as per the video, is utterly appalling. Instead of criticizing the inhabitant’s families for abandoning the elderly in their homes, it is about time that we call a spade a spade. The matter needs to be investigated thoroughly because it is also true that Edhi Foundation did get large sums of donations from all over the world, at least when Abdul Sattar Edhi was alive.
