Centaurus Mall Allegedly Hiked Their Entry Fee And Islamabadis Are Seriously Pissed

By Arslan Athar | 6 Sep, 2017

If you know even the slightest thing about Islamabad, you know that there’s a place called Centaurus. People in the city love the place and the rush there during the weekends is crazy. While attracting so many shoppers, the mall has also attracted the infamous ‘Pindi Bwois’ in huge droves, crowding the mall a little too much. Centaurus, wanting to limit its shoppers to purely families or people who come to the mall for actually shopping for stuff, tried to instate an entrance fee, not too long ago, of 100 Rupees which one could redeem at the exit if they had purchased anything at the mall. The huge uproar it caused made the mall management take back the action.

Recently they imposed another entrance fee, however the only saving grace for this was that the amount of the ticket was redeemable. Another fee has been levied in the past few days, and there’s major uproar.

It seems as though Centaurus has gone to another extreme with the recent entry fee hike

Yes, that’s 500 Rupees that are also non redeemable and non refundable. Its basically 500 Rupees that have gone down the drain. The entry fee (as before) only applies to groups of single men visiting the mall.

Ofcourse, people are not having it

While some people are already thinking of taking their shopping elsewhere

And people are in agreement, this just shows that the mall management just doesn’t care

Whatever the reasoning may be, this type of behavior prevents the mobility of people in society. This may seem like a simple move to stop certain people from entering the mall, but it gives the mall the power to remove people it doesn’t think fit the image of the ‘ideal customer’. Someone might walk in with the intention of having a nice day out with his friends, but could face not having that experience simply because he doesn’t fit a certain image.

Yes, the issue of having unwanted ‘customers’ is real but putting a price tag on the situation is not the best way to go about it. This only creates more rifts in society and more divides in the ‘rich’ and ‘poor’.

We contacted the administration of Centaurus Mall for comment and are yet to receive any response.

What do you think of Centaurus’ move? Let us know in the comments.
