Mohsin Abbas Haider is a multi-talented celebrity, who has done it all- from acting in major blockbusters like Na Maloom Afraad to singing hits like Urri Jaa for Coke Studio. He has also had his fair share of ups and downs and is known to share his personal life with his fans; from his fight with depression to the passing away of his daughter and then the birth of his son. But this time it is not him but his wife, Fatema Sohail, who has come forward with a statement of her own.

Married in 2015 in a private ceremony, the couple has not been very public about their relationship with his wife shying away from the spotlight. Until this public post on Facebook from her personal account posted in the late hours of Saturday 20th July.

She starts with a line, “Zulm bardasht karna bhi gunah hai”

She goes on to introduce herself and shares details of her story.

According to her, it started on November 26, 2018, when she discovered that he was allegedly cheating on her. On confrontation, as per Fatema’s account, he started beating his wife who was also pregnant at the time. The account details that he allegedly resorted to physically abusing her, including pulling her hair, dragging her on the floor, kicking her several times, punching her in the face and throwing her against the wall.

She eventually resorted to contacting a friend instead of her family who rushed her to a hospital.

Once at the hospital, the doctors refused to treat her since it was a domestic abuse case- to be taken up by the police. She goes on to share that instead of going down that route and filing a police complaint, she took time to digest the shock. Eventually, she was able to have an ultrasound done to check for her baby’s condition and was relieved to see it was not harmed.

As she shares in the post, she eventually decided to make her marriage work for the sake of her child.

On May 20, 2019, the couple is blessed with a baby boy Haider Abbas Mohsin who is their second child together. The mother has to undergo surgery due to a complication. While she was in Lahore in the operation theatre undergoing the surgery to deliver their child, Mohsin Abbas Haider was in Karachi with his girlfriend, an emerging model and actor, she alleges. According to her, he posted statuses about his depression after this to get the public’s sympathy and attention, instead of being there with her and supporting her as her family did.

Mohsin Abbas Haider visited two days after the birth of his child.

“Just to take images and gain some publicity”, as per her personal account.

On July 17, she went back to Mohsin Abbas Haider’s home and asked him to take the responsibility of their son. He refused to help her and to do anything for his son, she alleges.

At this point, she had had enough and decided to come out with it and make this post so more girls read her story and look at her as an example. She goes on to add that societal pressure or not but there is a limit to all this and to put a full stop themselves because no one else will do it for them.

She attached photos of the bruises of the physical abuse she suffered at his hands.

She also attached a photo of her police statement.

This complaint, which is a Front Desk Online Complaint, was filed in the Police Station of Defence Area (C ) which states her CNIC and her name and number, with the offense stated as a “fight” and the incident detail as “miyaan bivi ka jhagra”. The report is dated on July 20, 2019, and the time is given as 20:19 (08:19 pm) which is a couple of hours before her post is made. The status of this complaint is still pending.

Fatema goes on to mention that she had had enough of the physical and verbal abuse and the divorce threats that came with them. The proof is attached, and her statement is made.

The same statement was posted on her twitter account @SohailFatema with an added comment thanking everyone for the overwhelming outpouring of messages and support.
