Remember those days when we’d whip out our sliding phones to text our BFF and fangirl about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? When Wizards of Waverly Place used to be our favorite show on Disney.
Remember when we used to poke our crushes on Facebook and hope they’d do it too? Oh, and the time when we were ready to swear we had NEVER watched Twilight even though being a fan secretly? Sigh, those were the days.
Can you believe that 2009 was a whole decade ago?
1. Aik Alif – Noori & Saieen Zahoor, Coke Studio
Such a beautiful and meaningful message behind the song. Really makes you think.
2. Tera Hone Laga Hoon – Atif Aslam, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
Atif Aslam’s “shining in the sun like a pole *mumble mumble mumble* COME AND FEEL MEEEE”. One of the most romantic songs of the year, found in every shadi ki video 2010 onwards.
3. Shukran Allah – Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Salim Merchant, Kurbaan
The super hot and steamy movie Kurbaan with its song about love and sacrifice uff. Upar se Kareen and Saif had newly become the “IT” couple.
4. Paimona – Zeb & Haniya, Coke Studio
Zeb and Haniya made us all fall in love with them forever with this song. You’ll notice that Coke Studio songs are featured quite a bit here. It was after all the second season and Coke Studio was HUGE.
5. Meri Zaat Zarra e Benishan OST – Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Meri Zaat Zarra e Benishan
This drama made a bonafide TV star out of theater veteran Samiya Mumtaz and cemented Faysal Qureshi as a celebrated actor in 2009.
6. Chiggy Wiggy – Kylie Minogue and Sonu Nigam, Blue
I still don’t know what went on in this song. There was an Australian singer in it, the lyrics made no sense at all and the movie was a big-time flop but that didn’t stop this song from creating its own fanbase.
7. Paisa Paisa – RDB ft. Manak-E & Selina De Dana Dan
Gold digger warning? Bhai paisa ho tou kiya kuch nae ho sakta?
8. Janay Do – Josh, Coke Studio
9. All izz well – 3 Idiots
Honestly, all of 3 idiots’ songs were amazing. From Zoobi Doobi to Jaane Nahin Denge Tujhe they all had a different message and were special in their own way. There’s no way to rank them in the list.
Aal Izz Well. You’re lying if you tell me you don’t know this song word for word.
10. Tu Jaane Na – Atif Aslam, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
Atif Aslam’s heart touching song specially made for one-sided lovers. Remember when these two were dating? Peak couple goals. Also notice how Atif was a mainstay in Bollywood songs from 2009.
11. Sohnya – Hadiqa Kiani
This was a time when the music industry still had some relevance outside of Coke Studio and Hadiqa Kiani was the undisputed queen back then. Not that she still isn’t a queen but you get what I mean.
12. Aaj din chadheya – Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Love Aaj Kal
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was just starting to become a legend around this time and Saif Ali Khan was still considered a movie star.
13. Aloo Chaat – RDB, Aloo Chaat
Oh yeah, definitely remember this one being on a CD back in the day and now it’s a TikTok favorite.
14. Twist – Neeraj Shridhar and Suzanne D’Mello, Love Aaj Kal
“Rang de chak” x20 followed by “we twist” x20. I will NOT believe you if you haven’t attended at least three mehndis or parties with this blasting on the speakers.
15. Marjaani – Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh, Biloo Barber
