Here’s how you can use various different affordable oils in your skincare routine to give yourself a glow.
Oiling your hair is an essential part of being desi. Either your mother forcefully gave you a maalish or you did it yourself to combat a spate of hair problems. But hair isn’t the only thing oils are good for. You can use a myriad of different oils to get different results for your skin as well.
Be warned, some of these are essential oils which are very strong thus should not be directly applied to the skin. You should always add essential oils to carrier oils before applying them to your skin. The most commonly used carrier oils are almond oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil.
To use some of these oils you will have to mix about 12 drops of the essential oil for every 30 ml of the carrier oil.
1. Rose-hip Oil
This oil helps fade pimple marks off of your skin. Since it is an essential oil it needs a carrier oil to make it less potent when you apply it to your skin.
2. Tea Tree Oil
This helps with pimples since it has drying properties and dries out pimples in a matter of a few applications. This is also an essential oil and will need a carrier oil.
3. Castor Oil
This oil can be used on its own since it is a carrier oil. It is amazing for hair but because it is so sticky in nature people prefer to mix it with almond or coconut oil nonetheless. Castor oil is great for your eyelashes as well and helps them grow quite a bit. Just apply some on gently with the help of a q-tip.
4. Lavender Oil
Apart from having a soothing smell that helps you sleep, lavender oil is great for your lips. You can mix it in with a carrier oil of your choice since this too is an essential oil and enjoy supple and healthy-looking lips.
5. Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is a great way for you to combat dark under eyes. Gently dab a few drops under your eyes overnight and you will see the difference soon.
6. Jasmine Essential Oil
This is another great essential oil for your lips especially if you apply it overnight. Since it is an essential oil it should be mixed in with a carrier oil for safe application.
7. Coconut Oil
Pure coconut oil is just a great moisturizer for your skin unless you have oily skin. It works wonder in winters especially. And it’s a pretty affordable organic alternative to expensive moisturizing creams!
8. Olive Oil
Olive oil can be a great cleanser especially if you have dry skin. You can use a warm washcloth on your face to increase your skin’s temperature and then gently apply the olive oil to your skin. You won’t need more than a few drops. Massage the oil into your skin and then wipe off the excess with a damp washcloth and voila! Your skin is well cleansed and moisturized.
9. Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is great for healing wounds and scarring and thus can be used on stretch marks as it helps restore the elasticity of your skin.
10. Carrot Seed Oil
Carrot seed oil is a great essential oil even though it tends to have a very strong smell. You can add it to sweet almond oil and easily use it as a great organic sunscreen. Considering how expensive sunscreens can be, it’s a great alternative.
11. Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon essential oil is great if you have very dry skin that almost starts to look dull. However, you should use it only at night since it is photosensitive and should not be worn on your skin when you are expecting sun exposure.
