What do you get if you combine Umera Ahmed, Misbah Khalid, and Asim Azhar? I’ll tell you what. You get an insane musical telefilm. It’s been a while since Pakistan’s music scene has been solely dominated by multinationals, and there’s little else going on in terms of music. Here to break out of that shell is Noor. Ever since Shoaib Mansoor and Vital Signs got together to bring us the last musical telefilm 25 years ago, writer Umera Ahmed and director Misbah Khalid bring us Noor, starring Asim Azhar, Noor Khan, Rayyan Ibrahim and Samina Peerzada. With a cast like that, you can’t really go wrong.
While Asim Azhar gave us one of the most heartwarming songs on Coke Studio, this past season
This will be his first time on TV as an actor (but of course, he sang all the songs for Noor himself, too, so dear girls, remember how to breathe). There are 5 new Asim Azhar songs coming out as the soundtrack for the telefilm.
Umera Ahmed, the writer who gave us insane hits like Shehr-e-Zaat and Zindagi Gulzar Hai
is, now, exploring new avenues with Noor, by moving away from the usual genre she writes in: drama. This teenage, early-20s rom-com promises to be a breath of fresh air for everyone who watches.
The story looks fairly simple:
The girl and the guy are somehow related. The boy is an aspirational singer who wants to make it big in his life and career. The girl ends up living in the same house as the guy. And the two end up falling for each other in a series of cutesy events.
There will be an antagonist.
There will be another woman involved somehow, or even another man, who will want nothing more than our main protagonists to be separated. And of course, there will be a force that will want them to be together.
But why should you take time out and watch Noor? Because
a) The music legit sounds amazing. Don’t believe me? Here, listen to the title track yourself
b) The leading pair is adorable AF
Just. Look. At. Them.
c) Samina Peerzada. I’m not going to say more than that
d) Because it looks amazing, it looks young and it looks fresh
Producer, Adnan Butt, wanted to invest into something that was a little away from the norm of television. He wanted to experiment and break the mundanity that is present in the medium of entertainment. And tbh, I think it’s going to work out pretty great. :’)
I’m frankly a little tired of all the rona dhona that has plagued our TV screens, and everyone in every drama is crying over one person or another. It’s high time we let loose, lived a little, and loved a little.
Here is the trailer for you to watch for yourself:
