Maryam Arif is a Lahore based photographer and video artist. She has an eye for seeing light and beauty in some of the most darkest parts of our lives, that us regular people don’t really pay attention to. This is exactly the kind of photography she does – non-intrusive and observational, in her own words.
Her photography talks about hope and life, how even the darkest moment has light in it if you try hard to persevere through it.
Her photography has a yin yang balance; darkness and light, sadness and happiness, life and death. She brings out the richness and purity of everyday mundane moments of life, pouring her heart out and puts it through her camera’s eye showing that life’s intricacies are what make it happening and worth exploring.
Maryam has a skill of showing that life is symmetrical and connected
Broad and open with a wider perspective
Closely knit yet with open spaces to lose yourself in
Yet also unexplored and undiscovered in so many different ways.
Light is a recurring theme in her photography
It features in many different aspects
She can capture human feelings and emotions through nature photography
Like this rock that is gigantic, yet a stone structure that is flat and uninviting.
She can see the chaos of the human mind in the concrete jungle that our cities are
But still, every corner is glowing if you look hard enough.
The world is ever evolving and full of commotion, connecting all of us
And yet you can find moments of peace and solitude if you just let yourself be.
Maryam’s having a workshop regarding her craft on 1st May, 2017 in Mall One, in Lahore. And you can see life through her mind’s eye and learn to enjoy life in simple moments. We would definitely recommend that you go and be mesmerized by her ability to see the world in such a unique way.
