If you use the Internet in any capacity at all, you will know that memes have become the ultimate go-to. Whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you don’t really need words to communicate – just memes.
Well, it’s all fun and games until one meme to ruin the fun comes out of nowhere
A popular group on Facebook, ‘Halal Memes for Jannah Minded Teens,’ has taken the Internet by storm with their satirical memes and commentary on various Muslim experiences. Everything was going well in the group until yesterday when one of the moderators of the group decided to share a borderline LETHAL meme about how she thinks mangoes and fruit chaat belong in the trash (Mangoes?! Seriously?!)
And as expected, all hell broke loose.
Friendships were broken
Pleads were made for Zainab to take her words back
Threats were thrown
And then, there was just sheer disappointment
Which was kinda justified tbh because mangoes, I mean MANGOESSS
Some of them took things way too far but honestly, what else did you expect
While talking to Mangobaaz, Zainab Ali – one of the moderators of the group, said, “So it’s actually really funny because most of the people think I’m kidding, but I’m telling the truth, I just really don’t like mangoes. I had posted a fruit chaat meme earlier and that one blew up so I wanted to see the reaction of people when they found out (I) didn’t like another desi food staple. So far most of the reactions have been light hearted and and joking but there were a few me and the other admins and moderators had to delete because they were borderline death threats”
(WOW! Desis can be super insecure and lethal when they feel attacked, smh!)
“Now things are dying down a little but every now and then someone will submit a meme about how mangoes are the king of fruit and questioning my moderator-ship and then the best part is that there are other kids messaging me on the low about how they hate mangoes too which I think is hysterical.”
Khair, Zainab did what she did and said what she had to. But to everyone still fighting over the picture:
