General Raheel Sharif is quite possibly the nation’s most adored army official. Patriotism is rife whenever the General’s name is brought up as many hold his tireless efforts to eradication of terrorism in high regard.
Not to forget the highly entertaining memes that we have been blessed with over the years
Along with commentary on the sad state of political affairs:
The man is so well-liked that he has his own hashtag #thankyouraheelsharif
600 followers ho gaye ?#ThankYouRaheelSharif

Even Leonardo DiCaprio dedicated his Oscar-winning performance to our dear leader of the army.
Which is why it was a pleasant surprise that Twitter acknowledged our great military leader’s social media presence and verified his Twitter account.
The only problem was that it WASN’T HIS REAL TWITTER ACCOUNT.
The profile bio reads,
“This is not official account of COAS Raheel Sharif. This is just for news that is related to Raheel Sharif.”
DG ISPR, General Asim Bajwa stepped in to shed light on the mistake of epic proportions:
#COAS have no twitter account, this is just for Love, And I will never share anything in future, , support army, Allah Hafiz pic.twitter.com/30SYCD33ow
— ﺭﺍﺣﯿﻞ ﺷﺮﯾﻒ (@RaheelSharif_) September 21, 2016
And the fan account has also issued a clarification:
The error has since been taken care of but we’re all perturbed by Twitter’s lax verification policies.
