The entire world has been, in one way or the other, captivated by the Syrian Refugee Crisis. You’re already familiar with the story: Syrians are fleeing the long drawn civil war as well as the onslaught caused by ISIS fighters. With nowhere left the go, the Syrians looked towards Europe.
Their story only got worse because many European countries started refusing to let them become part of their society. With their homes shattered and the dream of a new life elsewhere slowly fading away, the Syrians live out their days in refugee camps.
One such refugee camp was graced by people we often see from the Seven Kingdoms.
GoT actors, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Liam Cunningham (Sir Davos) visited a refugee camp in Greece and boy do they have a message for the leaders of Europe.
Calling the current refugee situation shameful, all three actors have vowed to make sure the refugee situation improves. Maisie Williams said, “I feel it my personal responsibility to now help these beautiful people!” Lena Headey said in an interview “They just want a voice, that’s what they all said, tell our story, tell our story!”
Using the hashtag #RealmToTheRescue the actors are asking you, their followers and admirers to engage in a global conversation against this horrific crisis.
And for us here in Pakistan particularly, this needs to be a reminder of our own refugee crisis. We may call Europe harsh, but we haven’t been too kind to the Afghans either. Maybe it’s time we started our own conversation on the matter.
