Finally, The Offensive Dutch Cartoon Competition Has Been Cancelled And Pakistanis Are Celebrating

By Rameeza Ahmad | 31 Aug, 2018

An offensive cartoon competition was to be held in the Netherlands where people were being asked to draw pictures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Any pictorial depictions of the Prophet are considered blasphemy in Islam and when news of the competition broke, Muslims all over the world were incredibly upset.

And understandably, so were Pakistanis. A call to cease the Dutch embassy was given by Tehreek-e-Labaik leader, Khadim Hussain Rizvi.

The event sparked protests in Pakistan and people took to social media as well to express their anger.

Everyone called out to Prime Minister Imran Khan to take serious action against the matter. And the Prime Minister listened to his people and issues a video statement in which he called on the Dutch government to take notice of the incident and put an end to the matter because it was deliberately hurting Muslim sentiments around the world.

Prime Minister Imran Khan even called on other Islamic countries to use the platform of the United Nations to talk against this issue and others like it.

Apart from pressure from the Pakistani government, the Afghan Taliban had also tried to incite violence against Dutch NATO troops stationed in the country. Call for the Afghan security forces to turn against them if they were ‘true Muslims’.

So when this video statement was released, the Dutch politician Geert Wilders who was organizing the event called the event off. He made a statement saying he was afraid of other peoples’ lives possibly being put at risk because of the event and hence had decided to call it off.

There had already been several reports of assassination plans against Geert Wilders and an individual was even arrested on suspicion of him planning a terrorist attack on Wilders and the event.

But thankfully, the entire event has now been cancelled and we have Imran Khan and the foreign office to thank for it, for raising the issue up.

People are all praise for Prime Minister Imran Khan after the event was cancelled and he was being credited for playing a key part in the decision.

People are clearly incredibly happy with their leader and clearly, Imran Khan and the government’s attempt to have the situation fixed worked well.

What do you think about this entire incident? Let us know in the comments.
