A Complete Guide On How To Survive Ramazan 2016

By Ayesha Bibi | 16 Jun, 2016

Ramazan is in it’s full swing and we have experienced the first few iftaars and sehri’s. Lets be honest despite all the fun and drama that we are currently experiencing (Thankyou Amir Liaquat Shareef), observing a fast in this intense heat and that too of an average 16 hours is quite difficult.

However we have compiled for you a schedule that will (hopefully) allow you to have a slightly less boring and more productive roza.

How to have a good Sehri and not feel hungry afterwards:

Drink lots of fluids. Preferably as soon as you wake up, try drinking 2-3 glasses of water on an empty stomach (yes, it’s difficult but you have to do it for the sake of your health), this will help you keep hydrated throughout the day. Dhai, and lassi all are good drinks which will keep that parched throat away.

The Number 1 worst thing that you can do after sehri is go right off to sleep. This will not only screw with your digestive system i.e. making you fart. A lot, but could also make you gain weight. We know sleep is what you are craving most at that time but go for a light walk for an hour or a half and then go to sleep.

How to spend the day as a rozaydaar and being useful:

Most of you are more likely to spend the entire Roza sleeping from dawn till dusk but lets face it, that is NOT how things should work and you do have to indulge in something constructive.

If you are an office going person or a student, your schedule is pretty much laid out, and tbh, it is a good way to be distracted from the hunger pangs that you’ll be having the entire day.

Even if you have nothing to do, still try waking up by 11 am, max. or 12 or 1 but do wake up because it ain’t a roza if you sleep the entire day.

So, what should you do the entire day after you’ve woken up?

Well that is fairly simple. Do you want to try and be a good musalmaan? Or just stay awake in order to escape amma’s daant? If it is latter of the two choices then you have a lot of options, you can:

Keep tabs on our local and scandalous celebrities

Including but not being limited to, Aamir Liaquat Hussain aka the newest angel of Pakistan.

Qandeel Baloch, and her offers to Shahid Afridi

Qandeel Baloch Fighter

Tahir-ul-Qadri, we hear he is planning on a big comeback

You could just lounge around the whole day, waiting for the maghrib ki azaan, dodging your mothers’ murderous glares and constantly inquiring after the iftaari menu (we understand constant reminders of making more pakoras is required)

But if you want to make your roza productive you can do some of the following things:

Have a spiritual reawakening

Not necessarily pray all the time(do that by all means, if that is what you want to do) but understanding your spiritual link with the Creator is essential. Try reading up on what it means to be more religious or you can always read up on what different religions teach. Ramazan is the month of tolerance and peace. Try perceiving how you can inculcate that spirit throughout the year.

Indulge in Social Work

We concede, this would take you out of your home but the reward would be great too. There are many organizations, like Justajoo and Rizk, out there who, especially in Ramazan, work for feeding the poor and distribute raashan to the underprivileged. Or you can work on your own and look around the neighborhood for people who need your help (financial or moral) and can benefit from it.

Help out in the kitchen at iftari

The time of iftari brings quite a mayhem to the kitchen and the responsibility often falls on mothers or maasi, if you’re lucky to have one, who despite observing a fast themselves, slave away in the kitchen so that we could have amazing food to break our fast with.

Helping them out in the kitchen would get you all those duaas and you’d have a fun time inventing/discovering new food recipes.

So try out some of these things this ramzan and we are sure you’re going to have fun whilst stopping your roza from “touching” you very much (courtesy: Meera ji) and at the end of a productive day you’ll have bountiful iftar to look forward to.
